RoRo versus container shipping to West Africa

Most cars we ship go one of two ways: driven onto a roll-on roll-off vessel, or loaded into a shipping container. Both reach the main West African ports. The right choice depends on the car, what travels with it and your budget.

RoRo (roll-on, roll-off)

The car is driven onto a specialist vessel and secured on deck inside the ship. It is usually the simpler and cheaper option for a single running vehicle. Personal items should not be left inside the car.

Container

The car is loaded and secured inside a 20ft or 40ft container. A container gives the car more enclosure, and a 40ft container can take more than one vehicle. It typically costs more than RoRo for a single car.

How we price it

Where we publish a rate for your route, the estimate for each available method is shown at checkout before you pay. Routes without a published rate are quoted to you directly. Shipping is paid in full before it is booked.

At the destination

Import duty, VAT, vehicle age rules and registration requirements are set by each country and can change. Confirm the current rules with your country's customs authority before you order; LWD Africa's checkout total does not include destination duty, VAT or clearance.
